WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE?

This is a question that many people have asked over the years. I have even asked this myself.

Some skeptics have used this same question to say that God must not really exist because if He truly existed then he wouldn’t allow his children to suffer.

I don’t agree with their reasoning.

Jesus himself told his disciples in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus did not promise that his followers would have an easy life just for following him. He did however promise to give them peace in the midst of their trials.

I believe that God truly loves us and desires the best for our lives. Romans 8:28 tells us ”And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

ALL THINGS this includes things that we may consider “BAD”. God’s ultimate purpose for our lives is to see us grow more and more into the image of His Son. Hard times develop Godly character in our lives and enable us to “rejoice in our sufferings.”

Suffering develops perseverance, perseverance builds character and character leads to hope.

Of course, keep in mind that some trouble is the result of our own disobedience. In those cases God is just disciplining us as any loving parent would…for our own good.

When you find yourself in the middle of a storm, draw near to God and thank Him for bringing you through the storm.

God bless you as you continue to grow in your daily walk with Him,

Abigail Shaw
