The Lord Is My Rock…

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;

My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalms 18:2 NKJV

The Lord is my Rock…

When I think of  a rock, I think of something hard…difficult to break.  (Ex. “That piece of bread is hard as a rock” ) Then there are situations when we feel that we are “between a rock and a hard place.”  In this scenario, a rock could mean something “unchangeable.”  A “rock” can also mean something that is immovable like a boulder or a mountain.

This is how I view God…immovable, strong, steady…never changing.  This is so comforting to know especially in a world where nothing is definite or steady.  People fail us, jobs are not guaranteed, our health will sometimes fail, our strength will eventually fade but God…God never changes or fails.

It is so good to know that God is a fortress that I can run to…a place where I know that I can find shelter from the storms of life.  He is also my deliverer.  He delivers me from my enemies and from danger.

My husband and I experienced God’s mighty hand as He delivered us from danger this weekend.  We had to travel this weekend on roads that would otherwise be considered “unsafe.”  We were stuck between a “rock and a hard place.” Some roads were covered with ice and other roads were shut down because of the storm…we needed to get home so we placed ourselves in God’s mighty hands.  As we passed vehicles stranded on the side of the road and watched as others slid and spun, God continued to guide us…my husband praying the whole time.  Although our nine hour trip turned into twelve hours, God brought us home safe and sound.

How can I NOT put my trust in Him who delivered us from imminent danger?

God is my shield.  He shields me from the “darts of the enemy” as well as from other dangers that lurk around me.  I am so grateful for the ROCK who holds me steady, the ROCK who protects me, the ROCK who gives me strength. If you are not standing on the Rock of Ages, then I invite you to find shelter in Him today.

Standing firm,

Abigail Shaw
