Change…

Pinterest

Concept of daily routineChange can be a scary thing for me.  “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”

The problem is that doing the same thing over and over has gotten me in a rut….a comfortable rut.  So comfortable that it’s hard to get out.

The other side of this dilemma is….doing it the same way is not a challenge and frankly quite boring.  So, I can play it safe and continue on my way on auto-pilot or I can step out and spice things up a little.  Where to begin? I guess a good start would be identifying what I would like to change…

What would I like to change? Well, I can start with my attitude.  Be more positive.  I have no problem giving positive encouraging words to someone else but, when it comes to me…well, that’s another story.

What else? Well, I really need to see where I’m going in life.  I’ve been in education for most of my life. I have taught in Sunday school since I was a teenager.  I’ve been a bible school teacher at our local church. Then, I got my teaching degree in music education and started teaching in the public school system.  In fact, I have taught music for the last 15 years in the same school and frankly…I’m feeling a bit burned out. Time…

Time.  It can be are worst enemy or it can be our greatest asset.  It all depends what we do with the amount we are given.  Some days, it seems like there are not enough hours in the day to complete all of our tasks.  Other days, the hours seem to drag for an eternity.  No matter how we view “time”, we must recognize that it is a precious gift from God and we must make the best of what we are given.   Read More…

Attitude Of Gratitude

Pinterest

bigstock-Gratitude-32660405“in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NASB

I wish I could say that I am always positive and looking at the glass as being “half full.”  Yet, most of the time I find myself being just the opposite.  It seems that I tend to focus on the dark and gloomy before I see the bright side.  Oh don’t get me wrong…I’m not always  negative.  I just have to work extra hard to stay positive.  I’m blessed to be surrounded by people who keep me on track.

One such example is my beautiful Mom.  Growing up, she always encouraged me to do my best.  Whenever I was tempted to worry or get discouraged, she would remind me that we serve a powerful God or she would say, “worrying isn’t going to fix the problem.”   Read More…

God Knows When

bigstock-Vintage-metal-sign--God-Knows-38593018“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”  2 Peter 3:9 NLT

We live in a fast paced world.  We have come to expect most things to happen right away or at least when we want them to happen.  When we don’t get what we want when we want it, we tend to get impatient and choose a different route or solution.

I have always been taught that God answers prayer.  Yes, He definitely does.  Yet, what I didn’t understand was that God doesn’t always answer the way I want Him to answer.   At times, God may answer “yes” to my request.  Other times, His answer is “no.”  However, there will also be times when God says, “wait, not yet.”  Those times always seem to be the hardest for me. Who’s In Your Boat?

Luke 8:22-25 (NLT)

“22One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. 23As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.

24The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. 25Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”
The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!””

As the preacher spoke this morning on this particular passage, she asked a very good question…”Who’s in your boat?” Read More…
